Who I am

The career stuff

I’ve been working in HR since I graduated in 2000.

I’ve been fortunate to have worked in a variety of businesses across both the public and private sectors.

I started my HR career in retail and the NHS, which were excellent training grounds for learning and for completing my CIPD qualifications.

I spent six years at Anglian Water Services in Cambridgeshire, operating as an HR Business Partner and working across the entire East Anglia region.

More recently I’ve been working at a senior HR level in cutting edge industrial printing technology businesses.

Freelance life

I had an opportunity to try some freelance HR consultancy work in April 2019, and I can honestly say I haven’t looked back!

I’m loving the variety of organisations I’ve been supporting, from a large charity in London employing 1,200 people, to smaller businesses including a national building federation, a car sales business, a frozen desserts company, and an NHS medical practice.

I love being able to help businesses navigate people issues. Being able to see an issue resolved and the difference it makes is hugely satisfying.

As well as solving those people issues, I also love being able to provide input into people strategies to improve culture, employee engagement and retention for the long-term.

Outside of HR

So what else do I get up to?

When I’m not working, I mostly spend my time singing!

I’m in a soul, Motown and pop covers band with my husband Paul, so most weekends we’re out entertaining local crowds in pubs, at beer festivals, parties and weddings.

We’re called Special Groove, and you can check us out on Instagram and Facebook or our website www.specialgroove.co.uk  if you’re a lover of live music!

We also have two rescue Jack Russells so we spend time walking in the countryside with them too.

How I'm helping my clients...

Commercial Organisation, Cambridgeshire

I work on an ad-hoc basis, with managers calling me as and when they need advice. Sometimes it’s more of a check that what they want to do is OK.

On other occasions it’s a new people issue which they need guidance on how to action.

What my clients are saying

“Pip is the HR Queen! What she doesn’t know about human resources, can’t be worth knowing. She is passionate about helping businesses to be the best they can be; encouraging you to tackle those seemingly awkward/difficult conversations head on and showing you they don’t have to be difficult or awkward after all.”
